Underrated Spuffy

I loved when he covered up for Buffy in Becoming, saying that he was in a band with Buffy.
Showed that when he gave his word he would stick with it, also when he shrugs and leaves in the same episode, he still thought about it for a second but his priority was Dru back then.

In Smashed, the look of wonder on his face when he realises what's happening... yeah, he's in love =D

In Tabula Rasa when he walks to Buffy in The Bronze and she fails to acknowledge him he looks just deeply hurt,

In OMWF, the line, "you know, you got a willing slave, but you just love to play the thought that you might misbehave"

The way he looks after her hand in Bargaining

In Potential, they way she's concerned about hurting him

I can keep going xD

This face... he looks at her walking down the stairs after she was resurrected. He initially thinks that she's the buffy bot but suddenly realizes that it is the really buffy.

His facial expressions are unique. All he needs to do is raise an eyebrow to transmit a whole conversation. I think that JM is a great actor. I also love DB, but I don't think he has the same range of facial expressions.
I love how awkward and angry he gets when the Buffy-Bot speaks to him in "Bargaining" and how he eventually throws invisi!Buffy out of his crypt in "Gone." It shows that he learned from his mistakes and that he truly seeks to establish something genuine ... and not something simulatory or half way.

I have another one! Yes, I'm a sucker for Spuffy. I LOVE their interaction in "Beneath You" when they confront Anya at the Bronze. I think that it's hilarious and super cute how uncomfortable all them feel regarding their (past/current) relationships:

ANYA: You never understood me, Xander.
NANCY: Xander, who is this woman?
XANDER: Anya? She's ... Anya. My ex.
ANYA: Hey, nobody's bragging here.

Spike grabs Anya's wrist, roughly.

ANYA: (cont'd) Ow! Hands off the merchandise – you don't get to go there again, Spike.
SPIKE: Please - I've already forgotten our little together time.
NANCY: I thought you were Xander's ex-girl friend.
ANYA: I am.
NANCY: But you and Spike ...?
ANYA: We had a thing.
SPIKE: Didn't last.
NANCY: (to Spike) But weren't you Buffy's ...
SPIKE: Briefly.

BUFFY: Never serious.

Yes, this is not a cute/romantic scene, but I love Spike and Buffy's interaction. 😊

Everything about their exchange in Hell's Bells: the mutual pangs and longing, the intention not to hurt the other, the banter. 💖 He planned to make her jealous but couldn't bear to hurt her when he realised it did, and she didn't want him to leave though it hurt her to see him with a date. She's resolved to stay firm on the break up but allows him to know it hurts her too, and he's attempting to move on but is grateful when she admits it's a struggle for her too.

Another underrated facet is how Buffy's never insecure about her looks around Spike. She's never worried about her hair or her outfit or the "burger smell" from the Doublemeat Palace (well maybe a teeny bit because she removes her "chicken" hat when she spots him through the window 😛)
And the way they lay together in Touched, there's so much more to their relationship than sex ❤

Spike crying alone outside Buffy's house after she was resurrected and then confronting Xander and Willow about it. As much as he loves her, he's the only one that fully sees that it could have gone awfully wrong.

For me, this is says a lot about Spike's love for Buffy. It is her and only her he wants. (Of course, he also says that if any part of the resurrected Buffy was real, he'd never let them undo-it).13275

In Sleeper the scene in Spike's room

Spike:
[to Buffy] As daft a notion as "Soulful Spike the Killer" is, it is nothing compared to the idea that another girl could mean anything to me. This chip-they did to me. I couldn't help it. But the soul, I got on my own-for you.

Buffy:
I know.

Spike:

So, yeah. I go and pass the time... with someone. But that's all it is is time, 'cause-God, help me, Buffy-it's still all about you.d322ccf9edd9018229d8cbb1b4963dae--spike-buffy-buffy-the-vampire-slayer.jpg

People tend to value more Spike's loud and grand gestures to get Buffy's attention and approval, but my favorite Spuffy moments are the gentle, tender and subtle moments post resurrected Buffy, when the only thing that Spike was offering was someone to listen, when she didn't feel comfortable opening up to her friends. Early S6, in the magic box alley or on the porch of her home. Buffy desperately only needed a sympathetic ear, and Spike provided that, without any self-serving attempt or desire to get credit for it. Scenes like those are what was underrated about Spuffy, to me. Those moments are the ones that sometimes persuade me that Spike was more than just an evil demon, that he could possibly be more.

I find this makes Spike more of an Evil demon because he makes can choices , he chose to listen to Buffy, he chose to stalk and taunt her , he chose to hold Buffy hands , he chose to try to rape her , he chose to help Dawn then chose to try to keep Buffy from her , he knew Buffy had come back wrong but chose to take advantage of it , he claimed to love Buffy , but as soon as he thinks he's chip is not working he chose to try to murder a girl knowing it's the last thing Buffy would have wanted.... no Spike is more evil than Angelus

He didn't understand Buffy's conscience or guilt because he lacked one himself and ergo he couldn't understand no because he couldn't understand the reason behind it. I know it's triggering but there's an important distinction she intiacted both kisses, she intiacted the sex. The AR is on him but he originally came to apologize and I did think the don't sleep my friends comment was off Anya isn't her friend and she told him to move on. I understand it's lost on you and why but there is context here.
The girl is played ambiguously and the episode commentary does he want to kill her or does he want to want to kill her to get out of the limbo he's in.

He only pursued a mentally ill woman, one that used him as her confidant , mocking her , taunting her, stalking her , manipulating her, using her , not listening when she said no or don't , not believing she had finished with him..... Poor Spikey

Dora I know this is difficult for you or perhaps nigh on impossible but Spike wasn't a healthy person himself it's the only real life analogy that works. I know I can't ask you to emphasize but you need to understand that you are not looking at your RL paralel it has a lot of similarities but it is NOT the same or at least that it isn't to other people.

POTN says in his commentary for Restless that we look at the world through our own windows and so if our window is dirty or cracked or broken that's how we see the world. Believe me I'm not immune from this. If you find Spuffy upsetting as I know you do then perhaps it's healthier to simply just step away from it rather than rant about it. Trigger warnings exist so people don't have to engage with things upset them so they can just avoid them. You're attacking a shadow and demanding everyone see it as you do and however carthyartic you find that. It's not fair on everyone else to be attacked like that. As Sinead O'Connor once said you need to fight the real enemy there are real people and real activism whose situations really do paralell yours who could probably do with your anger being channelled into fighting their corner and there are also real therapists out there. I know US health care has its failings but really it seems like you could do with getting things off your chest in a better environment than a TV show chat board. We didn't create your problems, Joss didn't either. You need to find a way of fighting those who did or the damage they did.
Peace out geuninely, best wishes and good luck finding that.

Taking this back on topic 🙂

There's the things we say, and the things we do...
Tabula Rasa, when Spike tries to talk to her about them kissing ("All Gone with the wind, with the tising music, and the rising... music." Lol). Buffy clearly stands in the way of the Loan Shark and his demons hurting Spike, then she theatrically bemoans "If I were to stop saving his Life, it would simple things up so much."

It would. But she doesn't.
And as numerous threads on these boards show the "but chip..." argument only goes so far. At this point she is actively not killing him despite knowing he's still up to shady stuff, chip included. That's a choice Buffy, just like sticking your tongue into someone's mouth is 😛 She's attached already.

I shipped Spuffy for the same reason that I ship Jandy. It's simply that I like the dynamic between Sarah and James more than Sarah with any of her other costars, regardless of gender or content. They complement each other, whether as enemies, reluctant allies, friends, or lovers, and I have little doubt that I would feel the same way regardless of the roles that the two actors would play, even siblings or parent/child.

And, as an added benefit, they have no trouble facing each other squarely without either Sarah standing on a bucket or James standing in a hole. Minor thing, I know, but still a plus, in my opinion. Big men with tiny women has just always seemed odd to me.

In "Blood ties," Buffy and Spike are looking for Dawn:

BUFFY. Dawn! Dawn!
SPIKE: Yeah, that should do it.
BUFFY: Shut up.
SPIKE: The nibblet scampered off to get away from you. She hears you bellowing, she's gonna pack it in the opposite direction. Can't say I blame her.
BUFFY: You were right. This is my fault. I should have told her.
SPIKE: Look, she probably would have skipped off anyway, even if she never found out. She's not just a blob of energy, she's also a fourteen-year-old hormone bomb. (sighs) Which one's screwing her up more right now, spin the bloody wheel. (shrugs) You'll find her, just in the nick of time, that's what you hero types do.

Buffy gives him a hopeful look.

SPIKE: (firmly) You'll find her.

I absolutely love this scene
Hells Bells as was stated previously; in recent years when I watch that scene I get the feeling that Buffy isn't flustered and shy to Spike because she is trying to be secretive or standoffish. I believe in this moment she wants him in her life, she is turning from the dark and walking away from it; but I believe she has one hand trailing behind her begging him to follow. I would have loved to have seen the story that developed off that thread.
