Feminist reboot of Charmed

So a feminist reboot of Charmed, the show that portrayed them charmed witches as sex objects.
That should be an easy thing to do.
Maybe they should have a look at what real witches were like, not what Hollywood's thick as a brick depiction of them is like.

Maybe they'll wear burkas, just to get away from the former "sex object" thing the girls had going on. Or maybe...they'll just go ahead and bare their breasts every other episode, to prove how feminist they are!

Thing is ABK that I doubt they'll bare their breast, imagine (or don't) if the witches are all of grans age. Chances are the show won't make season 2.
Why not have the feminist witches be environmentalists as well? Then we can really have some fun with them.
Hippy happy environmentalist girly wurlies sat around a campfire burning bits of a tree smoking funny ciggies and laughing at re-runs of Bewitched.

No, you didn't set the 'crazy little angry woman' off.

Huh? Didn't say that. Never even implied it. I have no clue if you're a woman, or little or angry or whatever.

That was done by some of what's in the news the last few days. I mentioned it b/c it illustrated just how little women are heard or respected, no matter how big the monster on the other side is. It went to illustrating just how unequal the world is for women.

Sexual abuse is not really a gender issue, Cory Feldman said he was abused, and no-one really believed him. It happens with boys/young men too with authority figures they trust.

Uhm, when did i denigrate men?

Never said you did, I was referring to the feminist literature I had read that does.

Actually, unless you're in a profession where the salaries are public, most people are 'free to negotiate' their salaries -- and some employers actually require employees to keep their salaries 'private'

There is no evidence that men and women get paid differently for the SAME work (same job, same position, no familial obligations etc). As more and more salaries become available to public view (in the UK) this is becoming more obvious- except with the BBC unfortunately.
There is plenty of evidence that women tend to pick lower paid jobs/work part-time, for a variety of reasons.

Well, I'm not reading all the feminist literature obviously, but some of the stuff I've read is pretty laughable.

Fine, but do they have to denigrate men in the process? No, is the answer.

The rest of your reply has nothing to do with what I said. If I mysteriously touched some sort of nerve then I apologize.

I should hope you are getting paid the same as a man for the same work, since its actually unlawful not to do that.

You would expect it to be unlawful yes, and yet somehow they still get away with doing it. This problem still very much exists in the world its not hysterical media spin.

It is for the most part. There are other explanations that explain the wage gap that actually have evidence to back them up, statistically speaking, no conspiracy needed.
Anyway, that's all I'm gonna comment on that.

I don't know about anyone else but I can't wait to see the new, rebooted, empowered Charmed sisters take on such foes as the wicked Trump-beast and the fetid Weinstein-demon.

If you are in the US, check out Federal Business Opportunities (it used to be Commerce Business Daily) online. About half of the contracts are set out to give source selection precedence to "minority-owned businesses, HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) and women-owned businesses". The last job I had before I retired was program manager at a company whose biggest customer was a woman-owned business who was selling our product to the US Navy and her company was selected on this basis. The government has already established a preference for dealing with historically disadvantaged groups but few women seem to connect the dots and actually take advantage of this. This is official dollars-and-cents feminism as established by the biggest source of money in the US. And aside from our customer, few women know about it or look into it in spite of the fact that it is there for all to see. And these are business-owner level jobs as manufacturers or researchers paying top dollar.

How many times have you seen feminists tell other women about this (or take advantage of it themselves)? I would agree that women should get equal pay for equal work, but equality should go beyond that. Charmed should show equal spells for equal ingredients.

Haha. You tell 'em, girl!! 😀

Not everyone is excited about the “Charmed” reboot.

“Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern [the executive producer] did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work,” Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper in the original run of the series, tweeted on Friday.

“Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans,” she wrote, referring to former co-stars Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan and Shannen Doherty. “FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.”

She's just upset she isn't a part of it. It's sour grapes. Would be like Sarah Michelle Gellar disavowing a Buffy reboot.

True, but to be fair to feminists or whoever speaks up for women's rights I think they tend to focus on more than just equal pay. How women are portrayed in the media compared to men is one of the biggest issues I think. A very basic example, if a woman gets drunk at sporting event (like Lady's Day as Ascot) its treated as her being un-Lady like. Yet if a man does it, its no big deal.

Very true!
I don't think so. The girls put in a lot of work during the original show, and basically, it really belongs to them.

When anyone says "Charmed," they'll automatically think of Prue, Piper and Phoebe. (Not Paige, I freaking HATE Paige) Power of Three!!

(Then again, Holly shouldn't get TOO uppity, since the idea for Charmed was stolen from The Craft)

Merged these two Charmed threads as they were touching on the same reboot topic 🙂

She clearly was the most talented on the show. Wasn't Charisma Carpenter a guest star on it too, or am I thinking about Supernatural?
(it confused me when the threads got merged!)

Charisma was on both. She was quite charismatic on Charmed actually.

If you truly think Rose had ANY talent whatsoever, you're probably smoking weed. Again.

Dude, just say no. 😛

I suppose the fact that they were co-producers on the show is the reason that Allyssa and Holly's characters were so utterly bland and 'perfect' in those later seasons.
So in a way I understand why Holly is pissed at this, she was pretty involved.

Another vote for Paige here, at least she was allowed to have faults and screw up.

It might be fun to see who takes the parts of the 3 sister witches, as stated in the first episode the Charmed ones were 3 sisters but in the final episode
the 3 sisters could include 2 blokes.
Given that the writers actually present the three sister witches as feminists, who would you like to see as the re-booted Charmed ones?
