Yeah I think it’s implied what he means in the episode still?
I really don't like when other ships are undermined in order to prop a ship up, and this includes Bangel. Yes, Angel loved Buffy more than anything and no other woman will mean as much to him as she did. But he also loved Darla and had (IMO) a deeper connection with Darla than he did with Buffy (through her being his sire and the mother of his child) and I never liked that AtS tried to (mildly) pit Darla against Buffy, so I'm very glad that the above dialogue was cut. People can have many loves in their life, many great romances and connections, none of which should undermine one another.
@Ceadsearc03 - I had no idea this was the original dialogue! Wow. It's actually a little clunky so I'm kinda glad it didn't make the final cut as well but as you all say I think the implication is there nevertheless. But thank you so much for sharing this! I love to see those cut lines as it helps inform the writer's intent in the scene. I have always been of the opinion that Angel was never 'in love' with Darla, that was just my take away from the show. I do think he has a very strong connection with her and desires but I don't think he was capable of love without a soul (Same as I don't think any soulless vamp was) and I never saw any indication that he fell in love with her after he regained his soul. He certainly had a long history with her, felt deep empathy for her, and their connection cannot be understated.
I know this is super off topic for this thread but since it's mostly dead I'll go with it. I really like how they use Angel's feelings for Buffy in the Dear Boy scene because it really showcases Darla's lack of understanding of what loving something means. Darla thinks what she and Angel had when they were soulless was love. But I do believe Angel when he tells Buffy that he has never loved someone in his 243 years, and that is because he could not fully grasp what love was until he had a soul. Darla doesn't understand this YET. And then - she does! In Lullaby:
Darla: "I love it completely. I-I-I don't think I've ever loved anything as much as this life that's inside of me."
Angel: "Well - you've never loved anything, Darla."
Darla: "That's true. Four hundred years and I never did - till now. - I don't know what to do."
And I have always found this such a powerful line for a hundred different reasons but mostly because in the journey of Darla and Angel I think she comes to a place of understanding. For the first time she understands what love is. And this is the moment I find that they are the closest to each other. In a mutual understanding of what loving someone so deeply means.
Thanks again for posting @Ceadsearc03! The bangel forum has been very quiet. I hope you will feel welcome to post more Bangely goodness 😉

Darla thinks what she and Angel had when they were soulless was love.
as a soulless monster she wouldn't have cared about Angel loving Buffy (no one quote the BtVS episode Angel at me because Darla isn't a fully-realised character at that point and is therefore written somewhat OOC, I mean, Darla with guns? Please) but as a human she is greatly upset at the notion that Angel didn't love her, because as a human her feelings for him are different and she believes that what they had was love. It shows that, even though she won't admit it, her soul is affecting her and her feelings for Angel are changing, making her more susceptible to emotions like jealousy.
IMO, Angel loved both Buffy and Darla, in different ways and at different points in his life, and I don't think his love for either woman undermines the other; he has deep connections with both women and I would class them as the two most important women in his life
Can anyone else imagine Angel, if he got to raise Connor, signing his son up for an Ice Hockey little league and then going to watch all of Connor's matches?

I’m glad they cut that, I love Bangel but that feels like a line for fanfiction. It’s fine basically, but takes you out of the episode and Angel living his own life. It also feels rather forced.
(Also it hurts my love for Dangel 😋 He already killed Darla for Buffy, no need to rub salt in the wound! )
Yes 🙂

This is my issue with this video, Ms. Mojo picked Bangel, but still just couldn't help herself from mentioning Spuffy. I didn't see her doing that with the other couples....
